Good Old Days
In the early 70s and 80s Key West was infamous for Drug runners. The Fire Chief, Bum Farto, was a flamboyant fixture of the city, involved in the drug smuggling business. Bum was famous for his rose-tinted sunglasses and his lime green luxury vehicle with the front license plate bearing the name El Jefe, “The Boss”. He disappear Feb. 16, 1976, his whereabout to this day is unknown.
Deputy Police Chief was also involved with the business, Raymon Casamayor, was convicted in the 80s. His favorite words to the Feds was “Yo no se nada”, I know nothing. Lobster boats were use at the time to bring loads of marijuana bells(aka Square Grouper) to the Keys. $2,800
